TRIP TO JOHOR..
On the 29th until 30th November, we
has done academic trip to Johor. The trip was a part of education
learning for
student to gain experience, observe and get new knowledge about retailing. We as semester 4 Bachelor in Business Management (Hons) Retail Management, UiTM Shah Alam was organize the trip. The trip involve place such as Bazar Karat (Pasar JB) and Johor Premium Outlet (JPO), 30 students' participation and lecture Madem Shahirah Ariffin as guider. We gathered at faculty bus stop at 2.30 pm and at 3.30 pm we set off to Johor. We arrive at 9.00 pm and we check-in Zen zen Hotel and at 9.45 pm we go to Bazaar Karat. On the 30th November, we check-out from hotel at 8.45 am and breakfast at restaurant Abang Zaidi. After that, we proceed to second visit to Johor Premium Outlet and go back to UiTM. At the Johor Premium Outlet, the manager of JPO give us some information about JPO. After that we continue with our objective visit at JPO at 11.00 am until 4.00 pm. All of us excited to explore JPO retail store. At 4.00 pm we went back to UiTM and we arrive at 9.00 pm.
DOMESTIC
Bazaar karat is the one place that famous in Johor
Bahru. It also knows as Bazaar JB, that state at Sungai Seget JB. Bazaar karat business
starts from 6.00 pm until 12.00 a.m, at Monday until Friday. While, Saturday and
Sunday Bazaar open at 7.30 am until 12.00 am. JB’s City Hall (Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru) provides this place to local retailer to do the business by
charge only RM5 per day. They can sell any merchandise like shoes, bundle, shawl,
women accessories, perfume, 2hd product and antic product.
Besides that, in
Bazaar Karat also have entertainment like karaoke and also food court. Retailer give the affordability price to the customer. Customer also can bargain with retailer.

Johor Premium Outlets
(JPO) is a collection of 120 designer and name brand outlet featuring saving of
25% to 65% ever day. The center is held by “Genting Simon Sdn Bhd” (GSSB), a
wholly owned subsidiary of Simon Genting Ltd (“SGL”). SGL in turn is a 50:50
joint venture between Azzon Ltd (“Azzon”), which is a wholly owned subsidiary
of Genting Plantations Bhd, and Premium Outlets, the outlet division of Simon Property
Group.JPO is targerting a wide range of shoppers including area residents as well as international visitors from South East Asia. It will also serve as a hub between Resorts World Genting which is about 3.5 hours drive and Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore, which is about an hours drive from Johor Premium Outlets.
JPO is at Kulaijaya Johor, it takes about 45 minutes by bus from JB Central and the cost only RM4.50. JPO just like other outlet stores overseas, but the environment is quiet and quite relaxing. Most of famous designer brands are there. The several brands outlet are theresuch as Adidas, Bonia, Nike, Pedro, Carlo Rino, Charles & Keith, Clarks, Cotton On, Esprit ,Vince and so on.
OBJECTIVE 3 : To give a real situation on how the retail system that applies either to domestic or international operations.
The retail system that retailer applied in Bazaar Karat (Domestic) was a stall and where the Johor Premium Outlet (International) used standing building for their outlet. Bazaar Karat use the open air outlet environment, where JPO used the store outlet environment. Bazaar karat transaction only used cash payment, while JPO used the cash payment and credit card.
Premium Outlets is a portfolio of outlet shopping centers which brings together the finest brands in unique outdoor setting and offers impressive saving of 25 to 65 percent every day. Each center is a shopping attraction and destination in its own right offering such as factory direct savings of 25% to 65% every day, a distinctive, upscale store mix of leading designers and quality name brands, a location that is easily accessible and near other attractions, and an attractive setting making shopping an exciting and pleasant experience for the whole family. Most the merchandise that they sell was not up dated same like overseas but still can grape the customer to came and buy the merchandise at the reasonable price. The environment of the outlet also give the attraction to customer come to the store. Both of the retail operation have their own attraction and the environment.

OBJECTIVE 4 : To improve the student level of understanding about retail management concept in the real business world.
The education trip visit had give new knowledge for student about of retail management concept that Bazaar Karat and Johor Premium Outlet applied such as how they promote the merchandise at outlet like sign SALE and discount offer, they also give the good service like friendly and easy to communicated.

OBJECTIVE 5 : To give opportunities for student to be knowledgeable in order to create creative and innovative students in career opportunities in this field.
After done with visit of two places that give me some experience about retail Management in term of display of merchandise either in stall or store, how to create the store image, how to convince customer to inter our store and explore, how to manage the merchandise movement and stock. I can see the different between to retail store and different between Johor Premium Outlet with shopping Mall like Jusco,Tesco, Sogo and so on. I hope I can applied the observation that I make to the next semester course how to display the merchandise and also to the real world.
OBJECTIVE 6 : To enhance the spirit of Malay race and Bumiputera to generate brilliant ideal in expanding retail system in the future.
After done our trip, it give me some ideal to open the retail store and help our Malay race and Bumiputera to success in retail industry. One day I want to open the business same like Johor Premium Outlet or Bazaar Karat at my home town.

OBJECTIVE 7 : To give students opportunities to explore the real world retail management before move on to next career path.
This trip give us to explore the retail industry especially international industry how they collaborate with the retailer in overseas to get the affordable price and merchandise. Event the product that they sell at Johor Premium Outlet was out of date but it still convince the consumer to come and buy the merchandise at the reasonable price. ![]() |
